My Story:

Name: Tinkerbelle (Bonded Pair)
Gender: Tinkerbelle Female
Age: 8 years old
Approx.size/weight when full grown: 40-45 lbs Medium height
Breed: American Eskimo mix
History: She is a happy and active girl. She is nervous when meeting new people and would benefit from some confidence classes. We find that she is open to meeting people and being handled when she is with Shadow. Tinkerbelle came from a hoarding situation years ago and is the mom of our T litter from 3 years ago. She is a great walker and LOVES to be close to her humans and get loves of pets.

These two were adopted out but since returned. They were not comfortable with Tinkerbelle becoming protective of their home when they were not around and neighbors would come to let the dogs out.

We are looking for a home that has a yard for Shadow and is willing to take Tinkerbelle on lots of walks. Shadow is happy to just relax at home or run around the yard with Tinkerbelle. They need someone that will be patient with Shadow but willing to show him that the word is not so scary.

Name:Shadow (Bonded Pair)
Gender: Shadow -Male
Age: Shadow 5 years old

History: He loves to play with other dogs but is shy when meeting new people. He is scared of the world outside of his home and yard and could use some training to help him. He is terrified of being on a leash and therefore has not gone on walks. With patience and training we think he could come to like walks with Tink by his side.

Prey Drive: 3/5 Chases pulls and gets excited. Can be recalled but takes time and effort. Very rarely succeed in hunting

Chance is truly a smart, connected, loving, sensitive dog! He is a different dog depending on how he is handled. When well led by a connected and engaged human Chance is calm, extremely responsive, obedient, and non-aggressive. Left without enough leadership, structure and stimulation Chance is anxious, ignores cues, and guards aggressively. This is very typical of shepherds and shepherd mixes (which we suspect Chance is). In the right hands Chance is an amazing dog, the kind so connected and loving that he steals your heart. This gorgeous and sweet boy desperately wants to give someone his everything, you just need the skill to handle it! https://washingtongsd.org/about-gsds/ (click to learn more) He enjoys his offleash forest walks but should always go back to the basic leash training at least once a day. Duke will do well in a home without children and cats and a family that has medium high to high energy lifestyle to cope with his need for mental and physical stimulation.

Chance was just weaned and wondered on the street with his mom in Southern Taiwan. One day, a foreign worker from a culture that eats dogs took Chance away from his mother. The rescuers were following the pup closely, and thought Chance would have a chance of a happy home, but that wasn’t the case. They let chance roam without feeding him. If he’s thirsty, he travels to next door drinking dirty water. When he’s scared, he runs to hide under the neighbour’s couch in the open carpool. The neighbour successfully convinced the owners to surrender Chance, and named the pup, Chance.

Chance was quickly adopted in Canada and traveled here to live with a young family and another Formosan Mountain Dog and he was named Duke in the new home. Maybe it is because he treasures his new family too much that he developed reactivity towards dogs and people, and had to be muzzled when walking outside. COVID has contributed to his separation anxiety, and Chance would break out of the house to look for mom if she leaves the house only for a few minutes. When Chance broke out of the home, he would go around the neighbourhood, barking at people and refused to be touched by anyone. Worse yet, he started to lunge a children. The family tried everything they could including hiring a trainer and stay in close contact with CooGo. After careful considerations, they decided to surrender him back to CooGo.

In the new foster, Chance was sad for the first week and wanted to break out of the home to get back to his family. With patience, love and management, he quickly bonded with the foster, and learned how to socialize with dogs while controlling his guarding instinct. Chance loves hiking the North Shore mountains and thoroughly enjoys playing chases with his Formosan friends. Chance is still learning to enjoy himself in the dog park but mostly he stands at the side and appears intrigued. He likes going into the streams and burry his nose in to nudge and play with the pebbles. He also has fantastic recall even when in stressful situations. Right now, he lives with his foster mom, dad, a dog, three cats, and a 12 year old child.

Chance is a smart, connected, loving, sensitive dog that displays classic shepherd traits. Quoting from the Washington German Shepherd Rescue’s profile (click to learn more), Chance needs an assertive, emotionally strong, and at the same time easy going leader to be his owner. He can co-exist with children but anticipate nips and guarding behaviours towards the child in the beginning.

Free Korean Dogs - Vancouver

Email: info@freekoreandogs.org

Contact: EK Park

Address: Vancouver, BC V6B 0B9

My Story:

Samshik was one of the fourteen puppies rescued from a man who raised dogs to sell to the meat trade in Spring 2017. He was a small puppy at that time, and has been waiting to find his forever home ever since.

This handsome boy lives in the mountain regions of Korea, in a small and humble shelter run by a Buddhist nun who has saved and cares for many dogs rescued from the dog meat trade. Growing up in the shelter, Samshik is well socialized with other dogs; he is friendly and calm around them.

Although growing up in a rural environment means he wasn’t afforded many life experiences, Samshik is very smart and learns things quickly. He is always happy to see the shelter volunteers when they come by, and has recently been leash training, something he has taken very well to. He is not fearful of his harness and getting used to walking politely on a leash.

Samshik’s ideal home is one with experienced, patient, and understanding owners who will slowly introduce him to the world outside of the humble shelter he has known his whole life. Although he has a lot to learn about the outside world, we see a lot of potential in this beautiful boy and feel he would do great with a confident leader who will help him grow and thrive. Unfortunately, limited resources at his shelter mean his opportunities to blossom and learn about the world are also limited.

His ideal adopter would live in a calm, quiet, low activity house (no condo or apt, please) with a secure fenced yard in a quiet suburban or rural neighborhood. He would need an experienced person/people to allow him to settle in at his own pace while he embarks on his new journey out in the world, which we understand may be scary in some ways. Active humans who enjoy outdoors and hikes (where he would most likely feel the most at home once he has settled) would be beneficial, as would having another friendly and balanced dog to mirror, although not required.

Samshik has waited a long time for his forever home, and we know his family is out there. With a bit of patience and understanding, Samshik would make a wonderful companion.

Samshik is a 4 yr old jindo mix male. 51lbs.
Neutered, vaccinated, microchipped. Heartworms and Giardia tests done.

Why should I adopt a rescue dog from Korea?

We believe compassion has no borders, and every life is worth saving regardless of where they are in the world. Approximately 2 million dogs are slaughtered for meat each year in Korea alone. While some dogs live luxurious lifestyles as companion animals, others are tortured beyond imagination.

Shelter dogs have a very low success rate with local adoption due to the stigma associated with being so called “broken”, and “damaged” and are often at risk of euthanasia or being sold back into the dog meat trade. Recent shifts and growth in international adoption programs have inspired local dog rescuers in Korea more than ever, in a field where their tireless work seemed futile and dismal. Such encouragements have subsequently sparked a movement towards more local rescue initiatives. You may think you are adopting just one dog, but the impact of your action will be huge.

My Story:

Hiya, my name is Dorothy, but you can call me Dory or Dot for short! Heck, you can call me anything you want in exchange for giving me a loving furever home! Sound like a good deal?

I am an 8 month-old black lab mix weighing about 45 pounds. I'll probably grow a bit more, so when I'm a grown-up doggo I think I'll be between 50-60 lbs. You won't even notice my size once you see what a sweetheart I am though -- I'm quite the catch, or so they tell me down here in Mexico!

What's my story? Well, when my mama was pregnant with me and my sibs, she was looking for shelter. She tried to make a home for us at a ranch, however we were not welcome there. Lucky for us, our rescuers came and saved me, my mama, and all my siblings. All of my litter-mates have found their forever homes except for me and my sister Pepper. Maybe it's because we're black dogs? Did you know that black dogs are the most often overlooked by adopters??

I am living in a temporary home for now, and although I am being cared for, it definitely isn't a glamorous situation. You see, me and Pepper are living in the bathroom at our "home", which is no place for two adorable, energetic puppies! We need room to roam and play and live life to the fullest!

Being a puppy, I still exhibit some classic puppy behaviours (you know, some nipping, jumping up, restless zoomies, some adolescent stubborness... hehe). What can you expect though, I'm just a youngin'! Lucky for me (and you, of course!), I still possess that ridiculously cute puppy-look. I am a kind-hearted, energetic pup that is keen to learn! I am a clean slate in terms of training—I've got my whole doggy life ahead of me to learn so many tricks and good manners.

I am a VERY sweet and happy puppy and I love to play and go out for walks. I'm good with dogs, cats, and kids! Check out the photo of me being hugged by a child-- see? I'm such a tolerant pooch!!

With proper training and socialization, I will inevitably develop great relationships (and manners) and flourish into a wonderful family dog.

I am SO ready to find my loving forever home-- do you think you could make room in your hearts for a sweet gal like me?

My adoption fee of $750 includes my airfare to Canada, presuming I am able to be accompanied by a Flight Volunteer.

Due to the global pandemic and associated travel restrictions, it is taking longer than usual to find flight volunteers to escort your dog to Vancouver.

Dogs from Mexico typically arrive within 4-8weeks of being approved for adoption. NOTE: Mexico dogs fly into SEATTLE (not Vancouver). This requires a USA/Canada border transfer, which can be done in one of two ways:

1. You may walk across the border at Peace Arch Park to collect your dog from a USA volunteer. You would declare your dog at Canadian Customs before walking back to your car. There is about a 75% chance that CBSA will require you to self-quarantine for 14 days, so please be prepared to do so if asked.

-Cost to adopter: $32 inspection fee.

2. Pay for a brokerage company (Pacific Customs Brokers Ltd.) to get your dog across the border. You would meet them on the Canadian side, thus having no need to self-quarantine.

-Cost to adopter: $470 (+ $32 inspection fee) if only 1 dog is crossing OR $275 (+ $19 inspection fee) if 2+ dogs are crossing at the same time

***NOTE: we would try our best to make sure that 2 or more dogs are crossing at the same time in order to keep the cost down for you!***

PLEASE NOTE: There is no expectation for the adopter to pay any more than the adoption fee itself. We simply provide these as options in case an adopter wishes to receive their dog sooner than it would take to fly their dog to Vancouver with a flight volunteer. In the event you wish to choose one of these options, LALDR will be as transparent as possible with you regarding the costs and will ask for your approval before any travel arrangements are made.

Disclaimer: It is important for all applicants to visit our website, http://www.lovedatlastdogrescue.ca/adopting/ and read about Loved at Last Dog Rescue.

Information included in the profile is provided to us from the international rescuer or local fosters. LALDR does not have access to overseas dogs and cannot always verify the accuracy of their descriptions. Every dog is an individual and can act differently in different situations based on the person adopting them and the environment in which they live.

The age and breed of a dog is usually an educated guess, so we are not able to guarantee the accuracy of age or breed of our dogs.

Normally, we will not approve adoptions to homes with children under 12 years of age. More information can be found on our website.

My Story:

Hiya! I’m Myla, a beautiful Saluki Mix pup from Bahrain. I am two years old, weigh 55 pounds, and stand about 65cm tall. Aren’t I purdyyy? My rescuers describe me as a sweet and energetic dog who enjoys walks and cuddles – oh how I LOVES the cuddles! I am gentle with everyone I meet; hoomans, doggos, and kitty cats. Well, I may not be super excited about kitty cats, but as you can see from my video… I don’t seem remotely bothered by their presence.

What’s my story? I was rescued as a puppy (along with my mama and my three siblings) and have been living with my dog fam ever since. My mama (Sophia) was recently adopted and even though I’ll miss her soooo much, I’m so happy that she has a loving home to go to. I have doggy dreams of being adopted myself! Would you please consider giving me a furever home?

I LOVE my people and will always be more than happy to come to you for affection, food, or fun!

Being a young dog, I love to exercise! Perhaps we could check out some dog parks or some of the hiking trails I’ve heard so much about? I’m pretty chill once I’ve had my daily walk... maybe I could have a big comfy bed to cuddle up on while I nap?

My sweet face and loving nature makes me an ideal pupcake for any family or single person. Pleaseeeee give me a home!!

I have been spayed, microchipped, and vaccinated.

My adoption fee is $550.00 CAD + applicable taxes, this includes my airfare to Canada.

Adoptable Dogs from Abroad (Coming Soon!)

Questions!

Are You Prepared To Adopt A Pet?

So, you've been considering adding a pet to your family and are interested in adopting. If you're unsure whether you're ready to welcome a four-legged companion, here are eight questions to ask yourself:

Kidzone

1. What motivates me?

Are you in search of unwavering love and devoted companionship? Are you looking for a workout partner or an enthusiastic snuggler? If this is the case, you are on the right route. Adopting a pet is an excellent method to obtain the best companion, stress reliever and workout buddy all in one. Even better, science has established that having a pet has proven health benefits, such as decreasing blood pressure and battling depression.

2. Is my living situation secure?

The primary reason pets are surrendered to shelters is a change in the living situation to an area where pets are not permitted. Is your rental suitable for the type of pet you wish to bring? Is it covered by your homeowner's insurance? Particularly if you're considering adopting a huge breed dog, it's critical to understand the legal implications. (Keep in mind that if your rental or homeowner's insurance does not include coverage for dogs, you can get Liability Insurance from a few national insurers.

3. Is my space pet-friendly?

Any pet guardian's primary obligation is to keep their pet safe. Take a look around your house with this in mind. Is it a safe environment for curious pets? Can you keep your pet safe from falls if you are not on the ground floor? Is your yard securely fenced? Is your pool inaccessible? Are poisonous chemicals stored safely away from children and pets in your kitchen and garage (including antifreeze or other fluid spills on the garage floor)?

4. Am I willing to devote the necessary time?

Cats and dogs require human interaction and exercise daily to maintain their physical and emotional wellbeing. Inactivity can result in obesity, unhappiness, and undesirable behaviors motivated by boredom. If you're going to be gone for an extended length of time during the day, can you commit to spending quality time in the morning before you leave and in the evening when you return? A pet door and a fenced yard are insufficient, as pets, sadly, will not exercise on their own. Additionally, they will have missed you while you were gone and will seek the attention and connection provided by games or a stroll.

5. Do I have financial flexibility?

Having a pet as a member of the family entails providing for their requirements in addition to food and shelter. Your pet will require a comfortable bed, durable, secure toys, possibly a crate, pet carrier, or pet door, as well as grooming tools. You may need to get your pet spayed or neutered - an absolute necessity if you want to avoid contributing to the homeless pet problem you're attempting to relieve through adoption. (If you qualify, low- or no-cost spay/neuter clinics may be an option.) Additionally, you will be responsible for your pet's health upkeep, just as you would with any other dependent. Vaccinations, wellness examinations, and dental procedures are all costs associated with keeping your pet healthy and happy. Additionally, unforeseen veterinarian appointments may be necessary periodically if your pet becomes ill. (You can help defray the expense of emergency veterinarian visits by enrolling in monthly payment plans for pet insurance.)

6. Is my family supportive?

If you share a household with one or more individuals, are they prepared to help with the everyday care of a new pet? It is far easier (and more enjoyable) to integrate a new pet into a household when the entire family actively supports the decision.

7. Are my children old enough to understand the value of a pet?

Nothing is sweeter than children and pets, and having a pet as a child may be gratifying. To ensure a safe and happy experience for everyone, your child should be old enough to understand which behaviors are unacceptable when dealing with pets (pulling ears and tails, climbing on or riding the pet, interfering with the pet's food, and so forth). If you have extremely small children at home, you may want to consider constructing an "off-limits" area for your pet. This could be a room, a section of a room, or a crate–any calm area your pet is familiar with for "alone time."

8. Do I commit to taking all necessary precautions to prevent my pet from ending up in a shelter?

While shelters make every effort to reunite pets with their owners, pets that cannot be reunited with their owners are sometimes euthanized due to a lack of resources and space. Avoid this doomsday scenario. Always wear a collar and tag with current, readable contact information on your pet; microchip your pet and register the chip number in a national database.

Having a pet is a commitment that should not be taken lightly. You’ll need time, money, and energy to devote to a pet.
