Furkits adoption section for pets (Aboard): We work with rescues and volunteers in Taiwan and list the pets for adoption. Our rescues have the pets in Taiwan.

Adoption Process Overview:

2. Fill out an application form

3. We will send you more videos and photos of the pet if you request.

4. Interview (We prefer a video chat)

5. Contract

6. Adoption Fee: fees are for pet's health report, vaccines, PCR and 4-in-1 tests, X-rays, vaccine certificates, health certificates, import permits for importing pets to the United States and Canada, pet carrier, and fees for flying your pet to destination(airport). We will not use the adoption fees for anything other than for your pet.

7. We look for flight Volunteers (Passengers who travel to U.S & Canada and volunteers to bring your furry friend with them)

8. Pick up your pet at the airport and bring your furry friend back to your loving home.
 
Note: pets in Taiwan are available for adopters who live in Canada and US.

Shelters and public shelters includes city and county animal shelters, animal control, police and health departments, dog wardens, and private shelters. Note: private shelters might use the word "SPCA" and "humane society" in their name. However, they are all separate and run independently by organizations or government offices.

Physical facility?
Yes. Shelters often have a physical facility with staff and operating hours.

How to adopt?
The best way to adopt a pet is to pay a visit. Some shelters are understaffed and may not answer all phone calls or emails all the time.

Shelter’s adoption process?
Each shelter's adoption process is different. Here is a brief idea of how a shelter adoption might work:

1. You find a pet you want to adopt on furkits.com who's at a shelter.

2. You read that pet’s adoption process and contact information. (some shelter might ask you to visit the shelter directly during their adoption hours, or some will request you to email them to book an appointment.)

2. You go to the shelter to see the pet. You ask the staff to bring the pet out so you can interact with him/her.

3. You fall in love.

4. You go to the shelter’s front desk, give them your photo ID, pay the adoption fee (adoption fee average from $25 to $200), and get copies of the pet’s vaccination records and sterilization certificate.

5. Take your furry friend home!

Rescues are run by volunteers and often have their pets in foster homes or private boarding facilities. They run adoption events at pet stores or parks on the weekends. If a pet you see on furkits.com says that pet is at a Rescue, make sure to read the "adoption process" section and follow each rescue’s instructions. Some prefer you email them first, and some prefer you fill out their application before asking about a pet. Note: Please be patient when waiting for a response from a rescue; allow them a few days to respond. 

How to adopt from a rescue?
Each rescue’s adoption process is different. Here is a brief idea of how a rescue adoption might work:

1. You find a pet you want to adopt on furkits.com who’s at a rescue.

2. You read that pet’s adoption process and contact information.

3. Click the rescue's name (it will be in bolded blue text) to go to the rescue's website.

4. Fill out their online application form.

5. The rescue’s volunteers call you.

6. You agree to meet the pet at their adoption event in a local pet store that weekend.

7. You meet the pet and fall in love.

8. An volunteer calls for a home check

9. You arrange for a home visit.

10. After the home visit, you get a call from a volunteer to let you know you will be the home adopting the pet.

11. They email you copies of your pet's vaccination and sterilization records.

12. You arrange a delivery day for your pet.

13. Your pet is brought by a volunteer to your home!

14. You sign their adoption contract and pay their adoption fee (the fee ranges from $100 to $300 but sometimes more).

Adopting from a shelter:

• You might be able to see many pets for adoption all at once.
• Most shelters have an easy or no screening process and let you take home whatever pet you want on the same day.
• Adoption fees are often lower than a rescue's, but you might need to pay for additional vet care after adopting.

Adopting from a rescue:

• Rescues know a lot about each of the pets in their care.
• They might have a more involved screening process, which takes more time.
• They can help you adopt a pet that is more likely to be a better match for your home.
• Adoption fees are often higher than a shelter but usually include vet care that would cost more if you paid the vet yourself.

Adopting from private owners:

• The owner may know a lot more about their pet's behavior and health condition.
• The pet will go straight from their home to your home.
• Each private owner handles differently with applicants and varies in what vet care they've been able to provide for their pet.

Having a pet is a commitment that should not be taken lightly. You’ll need time, money, and energy to devote to a pet.
